I was considering changing the title of this post to “Girl, brush your teeth!” (kinda like a spinoff of “Girl, wash your face!”), but not only can that command be offensive and hurtful (at least it would have been to me ten years ago!), but it’s also really not about what we can do for ourselves.
It’s about what Jesus does ~ and has done ~ for us.
(note: Jesus knew he was going to be crucified the next day and he washed his disciples’ feet. He washed their feet!)
Ten years ago, you could have told me to wash my face, brush my teeth, make my bed, get unstuck, get out of my own way, get unleashed, etc, etc, etc. And you did!
But I couldn’t. I just could not.
And, tragically, as much as I pondered, I just could not figure out why.
That was, until a conviction of the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to my own “mishegoss”, my own nonsense, my own ignorance!, and led me closer to God for healing.
I was called. Just as you have been.
Healing requires a willingness to look at ourselves in the mirror.
And, if you’re reading this, you have it. The willingness, that is.
Wait. Before you fall back into resistance, hear this.
The mirror does not reflect back all bad. No, not at all.
The mirror reflects back what we project out of, well, just not knowing any better. The good and the bad <gulp>
And, of course, the “bad” is just stuff that needs to be surrendered for healing at its root.
Who better to reveal to us the root of our suffering than an all-knowing all-powerful God?
So, c’mon, my friend. What are you waiting for?
Say yes today.
